Clash Royale Chests Guide – Complete Chest Tutorial
Clash Royale brings back that nostalgic thrill you feel when opening a pack of collectible trading cards and hoping desperately to win something rare.
Opening chests is one of the most thrilling experiences in Clash Royale. It can also be frustrating, scary, and the highlight of your day. This guide will walk you through the different types of Chests and how they impact the way you play Clash Royale. If you are just beginning, make sure to read up on the basics of Clash Royale as it will save you from wasting a lot of time, gold, and perhaps even real life currency!
What exactly are these Chest things?
In Clash Royale, you build a deck of cards that allows you to someone creatures, heroes, buildings attacks, and more onto the playing field. It’s similar to a digital Yu-Gi-Oh fight. Building a deck though takes time as you earn rare cards and upgrade creatures. All this is driven by an economy of Gems, Gold, and Chests.
Opening Chests is similar to opening a pack of trading cards in any real life Trading Card Game, with a mix of rarities and bonuses. Battles are often won even before the fight begins, based on the cards you have available. Thus Chests are VERY important for succeeding in Clash and understanding them goes a long way.
What do Chest contain?
Chests contain gold, gems, and cards of increasing rarity. Different types of chests have different amounts of these three items. Also the amount of gold, cards, as well as rarity of cards changes depending on what level Arena the player is in when he opens a chest. For instance, at Arena 3, you cannot find Arena 7 cards in most chests.
Tip: If you are about to enter a new arena, make sure that you save the Free and Crown Chests that you have, this way you have a better chance of unlocking new cards and larger rewards from opening chests.
How to Obtain Chests
There are numerous ways to earn chests in Clash Royale. The good news, is that several of the ways are free and require minimal effort. The bad news, is that if you want a solid deck, it takes a LONG time and some effort to earn some of the rarer chests. It also can take a while to unlock those chests. Make sure to give a little bit of time to it each day, as this will take you way further than binge playing.
There are many different types of chests in Clash Royale, this guide covers most of them, although be aware that new Chests are added in occasional updates as well!
Types of Chests
These wooden chests are given every 4 hours to players and stack as well. You can have 2 of them in your possession (That way you don’t need to get up in the middle of the night if you are maximizing your Chests)! There is no wait to unlock them. Since they are free and instantly open, they are a nice little bonus but don’t contain massive amounts of items. Still, don’t underestimate them as they are very useful early on and occasionally surprise you.
These chests unlock after obtaining 10 crowns. They have a good mix of items, and also unlock instantly, but once a Crown Chest has been claimed, a cool-down starts before you can start collecting for another one. The cool down is for 24 hours and you only get one Crown chest at a time, so make sure you claim the Crown Chest!
Certain chests drop after winning a match or can be bought in the Clash Royale store. These chests usually require a little work to obtain or a couple of gems. They also come with increasing amounts of items within, and take anywhere from 3 hours to a day to unlock. The better a chest, the higher chance of dropping some of the most powerful cards. You can only have four of these chests at the same time.
|Chest Name||Opening Time||Rarity|
|Silver Chest||3 Hours||Frequent|
|Golden Chest||8 Hours||Occasional|
|Giant Chest||12 Hours||Uncommon|
|Magical Chest||12 Hours||Sporadic|
|Super Magical Chest||24 Hours||Rare|
|Epic Chest||24 Hours||Unique|
|Legendary Chest||24 Hours||Unique|
Epic and Legendary Chests
Recent addition to Clash Royale are Epic and Rare Chests. They are most often found in the rarest chests and Magic Chests guarantee at least one Epic card, even at Arena 1. They contain only Epic and Legendary cards respectively. Either chest can be earned randomly through winning battles, although this is quite rare. They also can be bought in the store. The occurrence in the store is also rare, so it is advised to snag the Legendary chest when possible as the opportunity is rare! Plus, you need to have 2000 Trophies before the Legendary chest to appear.
The clan chests are a recent addition from December 2016 and give a benefit to those clans who collect a certain amount of crowns from battles. This makes being a clan a little more rewarding as everyone works together to unlock Clan Chests.
The Clan Chest is a seasonal Item that requires a certain amount of crowns to be collected. The term Season is used very lightly here though, as a new Season starts every other week (Therefore making 26 seasons in a year. What madness)! The season openings have recently changed and now they start on every other Friday and go until Monday. Be sure to keep updated though on changes that might affect this!
A season lasts three days, you have the full three days to gather the required amount of crowns, afterwards you get a Clan Chest if you meet all the requirements.
There are ten Tiers of Clan Chests. The first Tier starting at 70 Crowns for the first unlock. After that, the next Clan event will start the count all over at the 2nd Tier.
There ARE some stipulations to earning a Clan Chest that you should be aware of. A 3 day Cool-Down period is instituted for new clan members. This prevents people from ditching a clan to join a new one and game the loot system.
You must contribute at least 1 crown to the Clan Chest. This means that even if everyone else does all the work, and you only win one crown, you can still get the Chest. Just don’t be rude. Clan means Ohana and Ohana means Family.
Draft Chests and Tournament Chests
Draft chests are given at the end of every season, unlike the quick season for Clan Chests, Draft chests are given monthly and correspond to the league you are in. Once you start playing leagues, these are a great boon to your deck and fold collections.
Likewise for finishing a tournament in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place a Tournament Chest is awarded. These are full of awesome loot as well!
Clan Battle Chests
Lastly, there are Clan Battle Chests. These are awarded for participating in one of the epic two player Clan Battles. Every other Friday you can challenge another player to a clan battle. These are awarded by winning battles. Once enough Clan battles are won, it unlocks a Clan Battle Chest and much like Clan Chests, these continue to increase in requirement and rewards!
That may be all the chests for now, but Clash Royale is constantly being improved. Only time will tell of the incredible new things coming to the game.
